WHAT IT IS TO BURN
W-I-S-T-B was a commissioned text by Richard Maguire, and published by Market Gallery, Glasgow as part of their programme On My Way Home. Editorial support was provided by R.Bose and A.Danielewicz.

As a publication, What it is to burn is an exploration of the evidentiary chain of the linguistic prompts that form bodies as burning, burned, burned out and burnt. The text is informed and acts upon notions around desire, passing, and the intersections of race, sexuality, and nationality. It comprises of 60+pages including illustrated chapter frontispieces.

It launched at Market Gallery on 19.11.2019, with select readings of the text, with a Q&A session with Rabindranath Bose and Anna Danielewicz and was followed by a screening of Un chant d'amour (1950), a silent film by Jean Genet, with a live improvised soundtrack by Adam Benmakhlouf.
